Here are 6 quick tips to keep your staff happy during the credit crunch
While it’s all doom and gloom in the press, keeping your staff happy and motivated is more important than ever. You need to keep hold of your best staff – here’s a few tips to help:-
Be Postive – A team will follow its leader, so be postive and your staff will be too. Rather than focusing on the negatives, focus on the postives, you can get through this credit crunch!
Arrange a Team Outing – a meal out together doesn’t have to be expensive but it will bring the team closer together, build morale and bond the team.
Listen – always be available to listen if your staff have any issues or worries. Be on hand and give them postive feedback where you can. They need re-assuring.
Empathy – it is important to remember that the credit crunch is effecting people’s lives with food and fuel prices rising, have some empathy with your staff.
Help where you can – See if you can arrange car sharing if your company has enough employees who live in the same direction, to save staff on fuel costs. Invest in a microwave if you haven’t got one, so staff can bring in their own meals to heat at lunchtime and save on expensive pre-packed sandwhiches.
Company ‘Bring and Buy’ day- staff probably have items that they want to put on ebay, or get rid of. Baby clothes, children’s toys, CD’s, DVD’s, books etc etc. Why not arrange an afternoon where staff bring in their unwanted items and swap for other items or a small payment. With Christmas coming, it could be a fantastic way to grab a real bargain!
Above all remain positive and keep smiling, you and your staff will get through the credit crunch and come out the otherside a stronger team.

Tiger’s player Derek Hougaard sponsored by Precision Recruitment enjoys a cracking game.
It was Derick Hougaard’s round on Saturday night. The South African fly-half scored his first try for Leicester, kicked five from five with the boot and then learned that the Springboks had hammered England 42-6. It was quite some day for the 25-year-old who left a four-year contract with the Blue Bulls to join up with his old boss Heyneke Meyer this summer.A scan on Hougaard’s thigh in midweek had revealed a three centimetre-long tear. But, with Tigers missing so many players to injury and internationals call-ups, the Springbok was asked to grin and bear it.He was not the only one less than fully fit in a Leicester side that bounced back to winning ways with a 27-14 win over second-placed Harlequins.”You don’t realise how tough the season is over here,” said Hougaard. “There’s a big emphasis on the physios and conditioners getting the guys fit.”Some guys have to play with injuries and that shows the character of the guys who want to go out there and play for Leicester Tigers and the immense pride there is just to pull that jersey over their heads, go out there and get the result.”It’s tough to put your finger on why the guys are getting injured. It’s a contact sport and there will be injuries. It’s about getting the guys to peak at the right time of the season and there is still a long way to go.”My leg hurt a little bit after the game. I actually felt good during the game but it stiffened up a bit near the end.”They say rest is the only treatment for an injury like that but we don’t have the luxury of that. It’s a long season but I feel I can get through it and get it back to 100 per cent.”Hougaard’s said his personal tally of 17 points in a match-winning performance was a starting point for what he hopes will be a season in which he can earn the respect of his team-mates.”I needed to get that first try out of the way and I enjoyed it,” he said. “Aaron Mauger and the guys put it on nicely for me and I was just glad I could score.”It’s important for me to get the respect of the guys.”I want to get the respect of guys like Ben Kay and Martin Corry because they have played more than 200 games for Leicester and appeared in World Cup finals.”Really feeling like you have their respect and are part of the team is vital.”It’s early days but I hope I can feel like I am part of the Leicester Tigers.”
