Precision’s Director Phil Walker shares his decade of experience in this field by responding to the current issues identified by Jobsite’s Jobhunters.
Q: “I have been told to send out a covering letter with my CV, I have done that but it hasn’t had any effect on getting an interview.”
A:’Write sales letters NOT covering letters. You need to know how to sell yourself to a potential employer and your application is the first opportunity you have to do just that. Employers will spend as little as 20 to 30 seconds reading an application, so you have to make a strong impression – fast! A sales letter needs to grab the reader’s attention within the first paragraph and give an employer a reason to be interested enough to ask you for an interview.”
Q: I have sent over 50 CVs to companies looking for a manager’s job but have only had one interview.”
A: ‘Tailor your CV – if you are using the same CV to approach every potential employer, then its time to change your game plan. This ‘machine gun’ approach alienates employers because your application becomes de-personalised failing to address their key requirements. Online job boards have made it easy to apply for a position with the simple click of the mouse. However, don’t blindly send your CV to every company you come across. Take the time to customise your CV and demonstrate how your experience and skill-set links.”
Q:”I have been for several interviews and only had a job offer that was well below the salary I am looking for, there just doesn’t seem to be the right job for me.”
A: “Register with a specialist recruitment agency – this can dramatically increase your chances of getting the right job for you. The consultant have contacts throughout their industries and often know of job openings that are not being actively promoted. In addition, your consultant can offer valuable CV writing advice and interview preparation, combined with relevant industry and company background.”
Phil says: “During periods of economic uncertainty, companies continue to need talented candidates whose skills and qualifications can benefit their businesses and increase their production and profitability. For advice on your career development and to take advantage of our specialist support in finding the ideal position for you, please call us on 0116 254 5411.

Recruitment Company Launches Free Support Package for Leicester Businesses Faced with Redundancies

Precision Recruitment is offering businesses across the region a free service to help with redundancy, restructuring and recruitment issues.
With the credit crunch forcing companies across the UK to cut costs and reduce staff, Leicestershire recruitment consultancy Precision Recruitment is offering businesses across the region a free service to help with redundancy, restructuring and recruitment issues.
Precision Recruitment, which is based near De Montfort Univeristy, has developed their Restructuring Support Service in response to the problems that some businesses are facing. “Making staff redundant is a difficult process all round, as we have seen with some of the UK’s big names laying off which has affected thousands of workers directly and in-directly across the country,” explains Phil Walker, Managing Director of Precision. “We are able to offer companies advice on how to handle the procedure and make it as easy on everyone as possible. Closures and downsizing mean that there are actually a lot of skilled and experienced staff on the lookout for the right position. However, the good news is that, contrary to what we are reading in the national press, many companies in the area are doing well. In some cases, we have been successful in finding work for people in a matter of hours.”
Precision Recruitment can also help workers who have been made redundant by giving them free, expert guidance with preparing CVs and interview techniques as well as actively finding them a new position.
Phil explains how, due the unstable climate, temporary contracts are also on the increase. “We have very good relationships with our clients and have a highly skilled temporary workers that float between our customers making sure that orders are being met after they have had to let permanent staff go. This means that a company is still able to meet customer deadlines, but without the cost of permanent staff that they can’t, over the next few months, keep busy all of the time.”
