“This is the first time we have entered the business awards so to be finalists is a real achievement for Precision and the team. We were up against two really strong companies who are both doing fantastically well. Massive congratulations to Natures Purest who won, we wish them all the best.”

Precision Recruitment, who specialise in Engineering, Technical and Sales Positions and who is a finalist in this year’s Leicestershire Business Awards, believe their temporary workers are bucking the trend when it comes to ‘ageism’ in the workplace.
According to a recent article in Recruiter Magazine, Older workers are finding it harder to find work, claims the Employers Forum on Age (EFA). The figures show that unemployment is increasing 44% faster for workers aged over 50 than the national average and those over 50 seeking work are three times more likely to stay unemployed for between 6-12 months compared to those between the ages of 25-49 (23% vs 7.4%).
However, one of Precision’s most requested temporary workers is Electrical Engineer Dennis Brown, who at age 67 is still going strong. Scott Lydon, Senior Engineering Consultant commented: “Increasingly we’re finding clients tend to be looking at skills sets as opposed to age on candidate’s CVs. Some of my clients actually request Dennis specifically, and will wait until he becomes available. Clients find him more reliable; he has a better work ethic and works faster than people half his age! We tend to find on the whole that older temporary workers are more reliable and have the experience that clients are looking for. Experience is being favoured regardless of age.”
Catharine Pusey, chief executive at the EFA, says: “Disproportionately targeting older workers for redundancy will be bad for business. We work with many organisations that report huge business benefits from encouraging an age diverse workforce and we urge employers to judge workers not on their age but on their ability.” (source Recruiter Magazine, 19th March 2009)
Phil Walker, Director commented: “If you are an experienced engineer, technical or sales person, who has just been made redundant or are looking for a new role, don’t necessarily think that you won’t be re-employed due to your age. The market is difficult at the moment, no doubt about that, but there are still jobs out there to be had for candidates who have the right skills sets and experience.”
