Office for National Statistics data suggests recession already over

 

Figures to be released this week are set to show that the recession all but ended in the third quarter of the year, economists say.

Stronger construction data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) should have boosted Britain’s gross domestic product, and expectations are that the third-quarter GDP decline will be revised down to 0.1%. Some expect a flat figure. Economists are unanimous that GDP figures for the fourth quarter, out next month, will show a return to growth.

UK – 19 months high of temporary staffing placement index

 

The latest monthly Report on Jobs produced by Markit Economics and sponsored by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG shows that the index of temporary staffing placements increased in November 2009 to a 19-month high of 56.1 from 52.4 in the previous month of this year.

UK unemployment rate drops to 7.8 pct

 

Unemployment in the United Kingdom eased to 7.8% in the three months through September, down from 7.9% in the April-June period, the Office for National Statistics said Wednesday.

Research reveals agencies still the first choice for jobseekers

 

Jobseekers have pledged their allegiance to recruitment agencies a survey has revealed.

Tate, specialists in office recruitment, surveyed 400 people revealing that 70 per cent of jobseekers would always rely on recruitment agencies when applying for a job.

This is despite Facebook having more than 300 million active users and LinkedIn recently celebrating its 45th million member.

However, 30 per cent of the sample surveyed by Tate would not solely rely on an agency for employment, suggesting that other platforms such as Facebook or LinkedIn would be used.
